The Sweat Clinic of Calgary was established to help patients who suffer from significant sweating, which is called hyperhydrosis. This occurs when people have an increased amount of sweating from their underarms, medically called the axilla. Sweating is a normal response of the body to changes of temperature, exercise and emotion; however, excessive sweating can affect how you feel about yourself. Many people disguise their sweating by wearing undershirts, dress shields, dark clothing, sweaters or jackets.
When is sweating too much?
If your sweating is intolerable, frequently or always interfering with your daily activities then it is most likely that you will benefit from BOTOX® therapy for hyperhidrosis. The most common site of treatment is for the underarm, where 80% of people will experience a 75% decrease in sweating for an average of eight months.
What are my options?
While there are a number of treatment options for sweating including extensive surgery, topical agents and iontophoresis, we only offer BOTOX® therapy because of its fast onset of action, predictable duration of effect, minimal down-time and the absence of scarring or need for daily self-treatments.
How does BOTOX® work?
BOTOX® works by stopping the signal that goes from the brain to the sweat gland. Usually patients notice improvement in three to four days after a small series of injections into the sweat pad into each armpit. The treatment itself takes less than 15 minutes.
What is the cost?
Most private drug plans will cover the medication portion of the treatment. The Sweat Clinic of Calgary will help you understand how you can be reimbursed for the medication portion of your therapy. There is a direct cost for the injection procedure, which is $250.00 per session.
