The vast majority of skin moles are harmless, in that they do not present significant medical problems. Some, however, can indicate the presence of skin cancer, and every skin mole should be monitored to gauge whether it changes over time. Occasionally, when skin cancer does occur, a procedure known as Mohs surgery is required to remove the cancer and repair the surgical defect. Even the most benign of moles, however, can be unwanted if you feel its presence affects the image your face puts forward.
